Storytelling Secrets That Drive Sales and Build Trust with Lisa Bloom
In this week’s episode of The Social Media Takeaway (available on all the leading podcast platforms including iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube), I spoke with storytelling coach and author Lisa Bloom. We explored why storytelling matters now more than ever and how to utilize it to attract more clients without feeling like you’re “selling.”
Lisa has written multiple books, including Seven Stories That Sell, and has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs tell stories that land, connect, and convert.
Here’s what we covered.
Why Storytelling Works
Storytelling isn’t new. But right now, people are looking for something real and relatable.
Your audience doesn’t want polished or perfect. They want to know who you are, what you stand for, and if they can trust you.
A good story:
- Builds trust
- Makes your message clearer
- Helps you stand out from everyone else in your space
This is even more important now that AI content is everywhere. What can’t be copied? Your story.
The 7 Stories You Need
Most people know they need an “origin story,” but Lisa breaks it down further.
Here are a few of the seven stories she teaches:
- The Story of You – not your CV, but the moment things clicked
- The Client Story – a before-and-after that shows results
- The Failure Story – one people skip, but it builds the most trust
You don’t need to tell them all at once. But having the right one ready makes your content and conversations easier and more effective.
What Makes a Story Work?
Relevance matters most.
Before using a story, check:
- Does this matter to my audience?
- Does it show I understand them?
- Does it show I can help?
If it does, use it. Test different stories. Keep what gets a response.
Can AI Help?
Yes…but only if you use it right.
Use AI to outline or structure your content, not to write it all for you. Your stories still need your voice, your tone, and your actual experience.
What works now isn’t volume. It’s connection. AI can help you organise, but not replace that.
Do you find this helpful? Maybe you’d find this interesting!
