5 Ways to Transform Sales Conversations (For people who hate sales) by Niraj Kapur
This week on The Social Media Takeaway Podcast, I’m joined by sales expert and author Niraj Kapur, we explored the intricacies of improving sales conversations. Having guided numerous businesses, Niraj shared practical advice on engaging clients more effectively. Here’s a glimpse into our discussion and the strategic insights I gathered from Niraj.
Sales conversations are the lifeblood of any business, and mastering them can lead to remarkable growth. Here are 5 ways to improve sales conversations:
👉 1. Start with what they’re struggling with. “Find the pain,” “If you don’t know what’s bothering them, you’ve nothing to offer.” And he’s right. Guesswork doesn’t work. You have to understand where they’re stuck before you can be of any help.
👉2. Proper listening..not pretending. Too many people think listening is just staying quiet. But real listening means picking up what they’re actually saying and shaping your message around it. “When you listen, you learn how to position your offer,” Niraj says.
👉 3. Be sound. Be real. No one wants a polished pitch. They want to deal with people who get it. “Share your wins and your mistakes. That’s where trust comes in.”
👉 4. Tailor everything. “There’s no copy-and-paste in sales” Every conversation needs prep. Every follow-up needs thought. And every client deserves something that actually feels like it’s for them.
👉 5. And when you follow up, don’t be annoying. Niraj says this all the time: stop sending dead-end follow-ups. “Reach out with value. Give them something useful. Otherwise, you’re just noise.”
There’s loads more in the episode…practical stuff, honest stories, and a reminder that sales isn’t about being pushy. It’s about showing up, helping, and building proper trust.
